Data loss is a much more common problem than most people would like to believe. A 2007 study showed typical annual hard drive replacement rates of between 2% and 4%, meaning that in any given year at least one out of every fifty people will experience a hard drive failure of some sort.
Luckily, a failed hard drive is not the end of the line. My IT Guy has several different options of data recovery, depending on the severity of the failure as well as the importance of the information being recovered.
There are several telltale warning signs that a hard drive crash is imminent or occuring:
If your system begins taking an unusually long time to load programs, or the performance seems to be degrading, it could be an early warning sign that your drive is beginning to fail.
Often times when a hard drive is beginning to fail, system files can become corrupted resulting in blue screen crashes.
One of the more obvious signs of a failing hard drive is a clicking or ticking noise being being emitted from the hard drive. If you identify this noise in your system, turn your PC off immediately and call My IT Guy. The more you attempt to access the information on your hard drive in this situation, the higher the chance that you will irrecoverably lose data.
Despite options such as online backup drastically reducing the chance and impact of data loss, a perfect backup solution does not exist. There is always a chance that a file might be lost before a backup has a chance to occur. In situations like these, data recovery is the best way to mitigate a potential disaster.
